Love Story: Erin & Jesse

Erin & Jesse Finnane
How did you meet?
We met at a Newcastle nightclub in 2007
How did he propose?
On our 3 year anniversary he took me down to our favourite beach for a surf before we went out for dinner. We were watching the waves getting ready to brave the cold in our wetsuits and Jesse said my name. As I turned around I could see him on one knee with a beautiful diamond ring in his hand. At first I thought he was joking, as he was nervous and had a smile from ear to ear. I said yes and then spent the entire surf terrified that I would lose my beautiful ring in the ocean.
When did you get married?

Tell us about your wedding!
Our wedding day took place on a balmy summer afternoon in King Edward Park. The weather was perfect after a very rainy December. My 3 closest friends from primary school were my bridesmaids, who wore a striking blue dress with orange peeptoe shoes and orange accessories to match. The groomsmen wore a pale grey suit with blue ties matching the bridesmaid dresses. My dress was a sweetheart cut ivory gown with a frill circling around the mermaid style tail into the train. After the beautiful ceremony taking place at the retunda, the guests kicked on at Dixon Park Surf club for the reception. The reception included amazing ocean views, yummy food, ‘The Rattle’ band rocking the dance floor, an ipromptu flash mob and some funny speeches. Our favourite moments of the day include seeing each other for the first time at the ceremony, and then walking into the reception being introduced as Mr and Mrs Finnane to our favourite song.

Love Story: Chris & Amelia
Couples Names:
Christopher Grozdanovski and Amelia Kaiser
How did you meet?
“We were childhood friends. Our dads were friends/went to the same high school. After many family gatherings Chris finally got up the courage to ask me to his sisters sixteenth birthday party. From that night on we both knew that we were meant to be together. Not only are we best friends – but we bring out the best in each other.
How did he propose?
“Chris has always been a romantic. He shows me how much he loves me on a daily basis. The day he proposed was like every other sunny weekend we had off together. He packed me a picnic and took me out to our new house that is being built. Then down to the Stockton beach.
Whilst laying on the picnic blanket looking at the clear blue sky he said, “Amelia, there is never a right time in life for anything but I know I love you and always will – will you marry me…?”
After five minutes of crying in happiness I finally said yes.
When did you get married?
We are planning to get married on the 1/10/2016 at the Hunter valley gardens and McWilliams winery.
Why did you purchase an Amalthea Diamond ring?
We purchased the ring at Amalthea Diamonds because of the amazing quality of the materials used and the vast knowledge/ friendly service of the staff.
What do you love about your Amalthea Diamond ring?
The ring designed by the team at Amalthea Diamonds is amazing. I love the way it sits so comfortably on my finger and how I know that even when I am 99 I will still have it on my finger because of its amazing quality materials.
Special thanks to Chris and Amelia for sharing their romantic story.

Britt and Dan Garner
How did you meet?
We met on the Dance floor at The King Street Hotel (where all good relationships start!). There were a couple of romantic months of courting and we made it official in June 2008.
How did he propose?
Dan had booked a room at the Darling Hotel in Sydney (although he had made out that it was my idea to go down!), we got ready for dinner and before we left I asked ‘how do I look?’ Dan then followed with, ‘you look beautiful in that dress, with that ring?’ and I said “what ring?’ which was the perfect lead in too ‘this ring’. We then had champagne in the room and enjoyed each others company for a while before telling our family and friends.
When did you get married?
We got married on the 9th November 2013.
Tell us about your wedding!
“Dan and I got married at St Michael’s church Nelson Bay, our reception was at Fingal Bay Surf club. We had a fairly large wedding with just over 150 guests. The weather was very stormy and we had a black-out at our venue between 6pm and 8pm (thank god for day light savings!!) but this weather made for the most fantastic photos! We had lightning in our photos and everything!
A special moment that Bec had suggested to us was to have our wedding bands engraved with secret messages. Reading these rings after signing the register with our messages on it was a very emotional and touching moment. “
Why did you purchase a BEC Diamond ring?
We had been referred to Bec who had done a few of our mutual friend’s rings. Plus we wanted something custom made as nothing in the shops was what we wanted.
What do you love about your BEC Diamond ring?
Our rings are perfect!!
Bec went to all lengths to make sure it was exactly what we wanted. My wedding band fits perfectly to my engagement ring and the diamonds are always so sparkly even when I haven’t cleaned it in ages!
What was your favourite moment of your special day?
Walking down the isle and seeing my future husband. Also being able to share our special day with all our closest family and friends!
Special thanks to Britt for sharing the story of hers and Dan’s big day!

Love Story: Matthew & Alyce
Couples Names:
Matthew Barnes and Alyce Barnes (nee Cook)
How did you meet?
I moved from the Hunter Valley straight after I finished year 12 to start University in Newcastle, studying a double degree of teaching and health + physical education. It wasn’t long before I set eyes on a very good looking, fit, smiling guy in second year. The Phys Ed students were renowned for their annual toga party. It was here that the love began, and the rest is history!
How did he propose?
Matt and I were in Bali holidaying and he had organised a surprise sunset gourmet seafood bbq with a personal chef on the incredible balcony of our Uluwatu villa. As the sun was setting over the ocean, our food was served on the most romantic outlook and Matt revealed three ‘artworks’ that were faced down. He told me that he had found some surf art at the markets in Ubud earlier that day. As I turned over each artwork one by one, I was very confused to see a black and white photo of him holding a sign with the words WILL, followed by YOU, and last MARRY… after I saw the third photo Matt was already down on one knee and finished the sentence with ME. I was in a mess of tears and overwhelmed excitement! It was the most emotional and exciting day and we couldn’t be happier in that very moment.

Tell us about your wedding!
“Wedding Location: Matt and I have a soft spot for the wide open fields and small country towns, particularly as I grew up in a small town 2 hours from Newcastle. To be married in a garden was something that felt very ‘us’ and would be reflective of how much we love the outdoors and the beauty of nature.
My nanny and poppy always took incredible pride in their gardens and I have fond memories of helping them upkeep their garden beds of roses and hydrangeas so it felt so special to say our vows in a beautiful garden. Our ceremony took place on the ground of the incredible Albion Farm, Woodville.
The gardens here are just overwhelmingly gorgeous with colour, greenery, beauty and ponds. It truly felt like the secret garden, which was a movie I was very fond of as a little girl. We are eternally grateful for Kate and her family for allowing us to have our intimate and so very special ceremony on their grounds in which they work tirelessly in keeping as beautiful as they are.
Our reception was back in Matts hometown of Newcastle, at the beautiful historic and elegant Longworth House.
My dress: After planning a day to Sydney with my beautiful mum and bridesmaids, I fell in love with the one and only Johanna Johnson in Paddington. I had dreamed of wearing one of her designs after always drooling over their website and Instagram. As soon as I had the dress on and the matching headpiece it was a signed deal. The gorgeous french lace and hand beaded gold embellishment won me over and I felt incredible in it. All of the staff there at Johanna Johnson were so welcoming and very lovely to deal with which made the journey even more special.
Groom and groomsmen: Matt knew he wanted to wear a bespoke and tailored suit so he and the boys went to MJ Bale in the Strand Arcade for their dapper Navy suits. Matt wore a tailored MJ Bale white shirt and a Herringbone tie. The boys also chose a shirt and tie that they liked, keeping in with individual personalities. Matt wore a tailored pair of Lloyd shoes. They all looked super handsome! “
Why did you purchase an Amalthea Diamond ring?
Matt wanted to design my ring based on his idea of a gorgeous art deco jewel I had pointed out to him many years ago. He wanted to be involved in the whole design process, so chose a Newcastle based, internationally renowned business – Bec Diamonds (now known as Amalthea Diamonds).
Matt did his research and was sold by the high quality product and service offered by Amalthea. Bec from Amalthea Diamonds was fantastic, highly knowledgeable and went above and beyond to help Matt create the most stunning engagement ring!
What do you love about your Amalthea Diamonds ring?
“Matt had a very unique idea from the beginning about his wedding ring. He loves the ocean and refers to me as his ‘anchor’ so he worked with Bec to design his custom made anchor ring. He loves it and really loves the unique, masculine design.
I absolutely love my art deco inspired engagement ring, especially because Matt created the design based on what he thought I would love. My wedding band is really simple with fine diamonds. It sits perfectly against my engagement ring and is so elegant!”
What was your favourite moment of your special day?
Matt surprised me with a song at our reception at Longworth House. He and one of his groomsman had been secretly rehearsing prior to the wedding and blew everyone away with their musical snack – a cover of ‘Endless Summer’ by the Jezabels. I was in tears and it was the most beautiful moment I will always treasure. Just when we thought the song was over, Matt preceded to bust into a rap ‘She’s doing a PhD…’ it was SO funny and had everyone in stitches.
Is there anything else you would like to mention that we could include in our “Love Story” feature?
